Botanical prints include: medicinal plants and poisonous vegetables as well as flowering plants.

60 Sowerby prints found below originally came from the library of Cambridge Professor of Botany from 1861, Charles Cardale Babington, who supervised the text and plates of later volumes of the English Botany. Professor Babington was one of the founders of the Entomological Society in 1833, earned the sobriquet of Beetles Babington, and from the Transactions of the Society for 1841–3, can be seen to have taken part in the description of the Beagle collections and been in contact with Charles Darwin, from whom he was known to have received a box of South American beetles. From this it is inferred that his copies of the earlier plates will date from no later than about 1850. Supplements to the 1st and 2nd editions were published up until 1865 when the demand failed to cover their costs, partly because of the new Third edition.

All our prints are Originals. They are NOT modern reproductions or electronic copies. Images are of the item for sale and may exaggerate blemishes and alter colours. I endeavour to mention any damage. The size given is of the sheet overall, unless otherwise stated, which is the image shown including margins.
