London: A Map of the Environs of London Extending 25 Miles from the Metropolis.
Edward Stanford.
c1895 - Sheet overall 99 x 94 cm

London, Edward Stanford, 26/27 Cockspur Street, Charing Cross, S.W. After 1889 and before the end of the Century. Large hand-coloured folding map, overall sheet 39 x 37 inches, dissected and laid on to linen. Area covered extends from Ivinghoe (Bucks.) and Godalming in the west, to Great Waltham (Essex) and Yalding in the east. Condition: Preserved in the original embossed purple cloth-covered boards with gilt tile to upper board. Nicely re-backed in a matching cloth. Neat ownership signature to printed fold end. There are two neat red lines drawn on the map to the western side, mainly following roads. One extends from Runnymede to Hayes and with a loop taking in Northolt and Perivale, the other from near Chalfont Road Station via Chipperfield to St Albans and then south, cross country, to Harrow Station. Perhaps these were perambulations undertaken by its owner? They do not spoil the map which is otherwise a very clean and crisp copy.

Pawson & Brailsford’s Up-to-date Road and Railway Map of 70 Miles about Sheffield, otherwise Cycling Touring & Motoring Road Map! A large folding map 94 x 76 cms (3ft x 2ft 6 in), mounted on cloth and in a cloth case. Its date is uncertain but probably before the First World War. It is half an inch to the mile and is marked in mile circles from the centre of Sheffield. It covers from Burnley to Brough and Newcastle under Lyme to Nottingham and beyond Newark. The railway network is very extensive and clearly shown. Villages, Inns, Farms and other places of interest are marked. It is in very good condition with no tears or markings. Even the cloth case is only lightly rubbed with a couple of splashes on the rear. There is slight wear at the corners of the segments but really only noticeable held to the light.
