Three-quarter calf, five raised bands with gilt tooled spine and gilt title on label, marbled boards, marbled end-papers, all edges marbled. vi + 898 pp + 8 pp adverts. An extensive and detailed gazetteer. Eleven folding maps including: Africa, North America, Australia, England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Europe. Plus "nearly three-hundred engravings and plans of cities, towns and localities of general interest". Book Condition: Very Good. Head of spine a little damaged and some rubbing of the leather. The folding maps in very good condition. Very clean and neat copy. Recommended. Thick 8vo.

Approx. 2 3/4 in thick, xlviii + 823 pages with 10 large fold-out colour maps inc the World in (separate) hemispheres, Australia and North America, some have a short marginal tear, repaired. Purple cloth boards and three quarter leather with 5 raised bands, blind tooled lozenges and gilt blocked title and lines on spine and to edges of leather on boards. AEG. Bookplate. The Gazetteer covers the whole world with numerous engravings in the text. Thick 8vo. A very handsome volume.

Book Description: Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts & Green, London, 1863. Hard Cover. Prize Binding. Orig. red full calf with gilt rulings to the boards and five raised bands to the spine which has elaborate decoration to the panels and gilt title on a black label. There is a gilt emblem to the upper board with a mitre and surrounding strapwork wording "The Northern Church of England School" and the first blank has an inscription ".... Rossall School 1863 - for Classics". All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. xii + 720 pp. With 6 fold-out hand wash coloured maps as issued. The book covers Britain "from the Earliest Times to the Present Day with a Sketch of the Commencement of Colonisation on the Part of the English Nation". It contains a detailed survey of Britain's physical geography, its historical development from Roman times to the mid nineteenth century and in depth information about each county or division of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. A very handsome volume which is very scarce in its original form, being largely only available in a facsimile edition. Book Condition: Near Fine. The only blemishes are some light indentations to the boards and dulling of the gilt title. Highly recommended. Sm. 8vo.

Drawn on an oval projection and printed from a woodcut.....Printed in Italy Anno Domini MDXXXII. Described by George E. Nunn from the copy in the collection of George H. Beans. 12in by 9in, 8vo. As near a perfect copy as likely to be found of this very scarce book. Three images available.

Illustrated with COPPER-PLATES, AND A NEW SET OF MAPS, Drawn and engraved by the best Artists, on Purpose for this Work. To which is added, a large map of the World, on which are delineated the different Tracts of Captain Cook's Ship in his three Voyages round the World. Also a Plate of the Terrestrial Globe, and a Plate of a new and curious Geographical Clock. Book Description: J Johnson et al, London, 1808 (13th edition). 12mo, 295 pp. (the last page mis-numbered 259). With 26 engraved maps and plates including a fold-out map of the world in hemispheres as frontispiece (laid down some time ago). Also a Geographical Clock with a rotating volvelle still using its original thread axle 200 years later. There are also secondary plates associated with the maps showing, in simplified form, the layout of the countries to enable the pupils to learn more easily. Contemporary tree calf with a double ruled gilt border and further elaborate gilt inner decoration. It has been professionally re-backed with gilt rulings and decoration and a red leather label carrying the gilt title. The endpapers and the head and tail bands have been preserved. All edges speckled. Book Condition: Very good. Some light offsetting from the plates. Just the one inscription of W Grigg in a neat old hand at the top of the title page. For a 200 year old schoolbook the condition is remarkable. Scarce in any edition and offered more cheaply than any other original I can find & MUCH LESS than the only other copy of this edition currently on the web. Four images.
